Candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, TX 2nd Congressional District
 
J. Darnell Jones is a 2018 candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives for Texas Congressional District 2. He is a native of Memphis, TN who has served in both the U.S. Army enlisted, and as a Commissioned Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy. He is a graduate of the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and he is a graduate of John Marshall Law School with his Juris-Doctorate. After taking the Georgia Bar Exam in 2011, Mr. Jones was recalled onto active duty military orders.
 
Mr. Jones served on extended periods of active and reserve military duty while working a few years in the pharmaceutical industry as an Executive Customer Representative for Merck & Co., in the Respiratory Division in the Southeastern Region of the United States. During his reserve assignment, Mr. Jones was activated onto active duty multiple times and held positions as Executive Officer of a communications unit based in Bahrain, United Arab Emirates; and he served as the Assistant Director of Evaluations for the U.S. European Command. He served as the Assistant Director of Navy Equal Opportunity, where he was the senior military advocate for Navy discrimination and equal opportunity complainants worldwide. He was then assigned as the Southwest Regional Navy City Outreach Officer based in Houston, Texas, where he was responsible to support recruiting efforts with STEM outreach coordination, program design and implementation.
 
Mr. Jones retired from the Navy in December 2016 and ran for City Council in Pearland, TX, where he secured 46% of the vote against a well-established incumbent after only 2 months of campaigning. His campaign was significant because it showed the positive effect of grass roots communication and the vocal demand for transparency from elected leaders which is the effect of millennial political involvement. Mr. Jones plans to continue service to our country with a congressional run using the same grassroots methods in TX 2nd Congressional District. He is the owner of Professional Services, Inc., a Pearland, TX based company that provides legal case review, witness preparation, and professional oratory training. He is also very active in non-profit organizational development with RACE (Ready to Achieve & Commit to Excellence) in non-profit application phase. RACE is an organization that will build confidence and professional presentation skills in under-served and minority youth with interests in STEM careers.
 
He is divorced and has a nineteen-year-old daughter (Christina), who is a sophomore at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. He is a resident of Houston, TX.
